What follows is an extract from his executive summary and conclusions.

Place Based Design – What next?

Uncovering the actual needs of a place.

  • What are some prevalent social issues in the LCR?
  • What action is needed for positive, equitable change?

Power and politics

  • How can we direct change efforts?
  • Who controls funding for the LCR?

The Burke-Litwin Model can identify opportunities for economic growth and prioritise cultural richness for inclusive design strategies in Liverpool such as using maritime heritage to attract new businesses and create employment opportunities.

This model gives a structured approach to implementing place-based design in LCR , for example, assessing the benefits of upgrading transportation systems.

Aspects of the model are interlinked, such as individual and organisational needs linking to the external environment.

We have identified the significance of this in Liverpool as greater transport needs are emerging as a result of the current transportation system.
